This graphic depiction sums it up pretty well. We have a major conflict between what’s done in the medical system vs what needs to be done.
There is no question that doctors and medical specialists are intelligent and had to apply themselves diligently to pass all the medical school classes.
There’s a problem in the system…
Let’s think about the concept of what medical school training, in today’s medical schools entails…
The training is highly influenced by the pharmaceutical industry (thanks to donations to medical schools, drug reps visiting and influencing our doctors. In addition, medical school instructors speak at conferences sponsored by Pharma so that these instructors become reliant on Pharma income leaving little room for impartiality on the professors part regarding drugs vs natural alternative. Therefore, medical students who ultimately become our doctors, are taught only one avenue for medical treatment—they are taught what drug to prescribe (and why) for specific health conditions rather than being trained to look for what causes the health condition.
As an example, if you visit a physician for an acid reflux issue, the doctor will roll his or her chair up to their computer and type in “acid reflux”. The computer spits out the recommended drug for acid reflux (Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium, Protonix); writes a prescription and out the door you go.
Eeezy peezy…right?
But wait…
Acid reflux drugs greatly mess up gut microbiome, which is the ultimate root of ALL health (Hippocrates, the great healer, was known to teach this to all his medical students).
These drugs are also known to contribute to kidney damage. (See article)
In alternative health, we learn that acid reflux is often caused from too LITTLE acid in the gut rather than too much. So, prescribing a drug to reduce your stomach acid ultimately works against your body and what you need to do in order to heal.
Here’s the scenario:
- You eat.
- With too little stomach acid to break this food down, your food sits in the gut, undigested and putrefies). Bacteria such as H. pylori, C. difficile and Candida, thrive in this environment.
- Your brain receives a message, “Danger in the gut-food is not getting digested!”.
- Your brain sends in the needed enzymes and acids but, since the undigested food is perceived as an emergency, it ultimately sends in extreme amounts of acid to get that rotting food out ASAP. Unfortunately, in its haste to get rid of the Candida/H. pylori banquet, the body responds to the brain’s command and often OVER compensates to create….what?…
- Too much acid, hence, acid reflux.
So, if food sits and rots from too little acid in the gut, does it make any sense to use PPI medications to reduce your acid?
No. It doesn’t.
This is why alternative health, for chronic conditions, is usually a better way to deal with health issues.
Today’s doctors likely would not have stood a chance to graduate from Hippocrates based medical schools and most likely wouldn’t graduate an entry level class of Human Body Systems Interactions 101. Because, todays doctors learn anatomy, the name of different health conditions and what drug to prescribe for that health condition. What they don’t learn is what plant, mineral, supplement or other natural based constituent we might use to help the body rather than drugging the body.
In an emergency, we can be thankful for our doctors and hospitals.
But today’s doctors, for chronic day-to-day health conditions that are created in the body from chemical exposure, lifestyle habits or poor diet, are trained by the one industry designed (literally) to want you to use their product: drugs.
Drugs that are given a more gentle sounding label by being called a medication.
Medications give out the impression that the prescription is helping you heal. When in fact, they often do the opposite.
By calling it a medication, we tend to forget what we are being prescribed is a drug–something completely unnatural to the human body. Drugs force the body to do whatever the drug is designed to do. Drugs force–whereas Alternative health methods offer constituents to the cell receptors. If the body needs the natural health constituent, your cell receptors receive/aborb that constituent. If our body doesn’t need it, natural health constituents are easily broken down and excreted from our body.
But drugs don’t give the cell receptor an option of absorbing or not. Drugs force their constituents into your cells. When we force unnatural constituents into our cells, the body ends up in chaos to ultimately cause damage.
This is why every drug comes with a lengthy list of potential side effects.
Let’s back up the bus a bit and find out what happens if we prevent the uncomfortable situation of food sitting and rotting in our gut in the first place.
Same scenario as before only we change things up a little:
- You eat.
- But first (or at least with our food), you take a few digestive enzyme capsules (from plants, not drugs) to aid the gut in breaking down our food.
- Food digests and breaks down, as it should.
- The body is able to extract nutrients to support our body systems/cells/membranes (unlike food that rots in the gut).
- Then… the constituents in the food (including toxins) that the body doesn’t need, get moved along (unlike rotting food that sits in the gut), through the intestines and out the chute.
Using drugs to suppress acid (and damage multiple areas of the body), would no longer be needed.
No kidney damage, no gut microbiome upheaval, no putrefying food buffet for the nasty bacteria/parasites and no damage to the gut to contribute to anxiety or depression or a host of other health concerns.
If this simple concept is what our doctors learned in ‘Human Body Symptoms 101’ in medical school, they could then move on to ‘Healing Simple Ailments 101′ and actually help people heal rather than rolling a chair to a computer to find out what drug to prescribe.
Again, in no way is this belittling doctors’ intelligence.
They are stuck in a system that’s not working. The issue being…..a system of insurance and pharmaceutical companies that set the established protocol.
If doctors want to defend themselves in a lawsuit and retain malpractice insurance, they must follow established protocol. Established protocol is: prescribe to the patient a medication listed for their health condition.
We have a sicker population than any generation before us….
This scenario regarding acid reflux is only one example of why drugs and medications are not the answer. The practice of taking a daily medication for any chronic day-to-day health condition is the same concept… medication cannot and does not work with the body.
To actually heal, people need help understanding from our doctors what’s happening in their body. NOT another drug piled on top of their other medications and drugs. This is why a naturopath doctor or Functional Med doctor is a better option than today’s standard medicine doctors. In addition, each of us need to be learning through our own research. Learning on our own for our child’s health condition is what worked our child off 12 medications. It’s what helped me resolve issues from two conditions I was told I had: Fibromyalgia and Lupus.
If we want to work on healing the damage that has been done in your gut and/or why it is not functioning properly, there is more info on this topic in my simple, yet helpful (based on all 5* Amazon reviews) book “Essential Gut & Hormone Wellness“.
A couple other helpful tips, in addition to the digestive enzyme capsules…
✔ Drink a bit of apple cider vinegar in 2-4 ounces of water (not a full glass of water as that interferes with digestion) about five minutes before eating. These natural enzymes work well with the body in breaking down your food.
✔Use Digestive bitters — liquid herbs that aid your digestive system when digesting.
✔ Work to heal the gut with liquid aloe vera. Splash a bit in your water 2-3 times per day. Many health food stores carry the brand I prefer (no additives or chemicals) called George’s liquid aloe vera. Here is a link to it on Amazon.
✔ A high quality CBD can help aid the body in regenerating to heal itself. I prefer a good water based CBD (called “tincture”) due to the fact that water-based absorbs tremendously better into our water-based gut lining and brain barrier, rather than a CBD oil. Its important to get a tincture that did not use solvents (common in water based CBD) AND that didn’t add back in coconut or hemp oil as a carrier.
The brand I prefer, BioReigns, is made up of water, CBD and Curcumin (anti-inflammatory compound of Turmeric). They are simple ingredients but a powerful aid. Learn more here thru my affiliate link.
The above items can be helpful but, in my opinion, the most important (and certainly an easy option) is to use with, or shortly before meals, digestive enzyme capsules.
- They aid the digestive system to quickly break down food, avoid it putrefying in the gut AND avoid acid reflux.
- They aid the digestive system in extracting nutrients from food AND
- They aid the body in breaking down junk food to get it, and its toxins, out of the body as quickly as possible.
All of this takes a huge burden off the digestive system. If our digestive system never gets rest, much like we rest when we have the flu, then our digestive system cannot heal. We, and it, must rest if it is ever going to heal. Hence, digestive enzymes, is one of the core basics I mention in my book and for good reason.
You can find digestive enzyme capsules in the health section of large grocery stores or a health food store (the brand ReNew Life is a good one but there are many that are good, basic enzymes). Also, online at Mercola.com or Amazon.com.
There are better ways to work with the body than drugs.
If that weren’t true, we wouldn’t see packed waiting rooms in every medical clinic nor would it take six weeks to get in to see the doctor (who ultimately, will prescribe you a drug).
While most doctors enter medical school with a desire to help and heal, they are caught up in a web that is designed for pharmaceutical company products, insurance company requirements and the demand for your doctor to produce X amount of income through ordering profit-producing tests (some needed, some are not) and a required protocol of one patient per every 8-15 minutes.
Thus, if we stay in the system, we ultimately end up stuck in the system and stuck with a chronically ill body. In answer to the title heading of this article “Is your doctor going to heal you?”, sadly, the odds are he/she is not going to heal you. Even the medication insert never makes the claim to heal. It can’t. Because the best it can try to do is control your condition. Therefore, healing must come from somewhere or someone else. I suggest you start by appointing yourself to be the one in charge with help (if needed) from an alternative wellness consultant/doctor.
Research and learning goes a very long way in regaining your health, rather than relying on a system that has not the time, knowledge, nor the interest…..in your healing.
*Note: Never discontinue any medication suddenly and without consulting your doctor (including PPI’s).
